Modeling the Unity of God

Feb 22, 2026    Pastor John Greer, Pastor Tamara Greer

This powerful message challenges us to see marriage not as a contract built on performance, but as a sacred covenant that mirrors God's unwavering commitment to us. Drawing from Genesis 1:27 and the beautiful unity prayer of Jesus in John 17, we're reminded that our marriages are designed to reflect the perfect oneness of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The distinction between contract and covenant is transformative: a contract says 'as long as you,' while covenant declares 'even if you.' This isn't just theology for Sunday mornings; it's practical love lived out in everyday moments—washing dishes, having difficult conversations, choosing kindness when irritated, and listening instead of defending. The agape love described in 1 Corinthians 13 isn't reserved for wedding ceremonies; it's meant for Tuesday afternoons and late-night disagreements. When we understand that our unity as married believers serves as evangelism to a watching world, the stakes become clear. People learn about God by watching how we treat each other. Our marriages either move toward isolation or oneness, and the choice is ours to make daily. The call here is to intentional love—pressing into God first so we can overflow His love to our spouses, creating safety that produces true intimacy and a testimony that declares there is a God like this.
